PostSubject: Altering the process priority of Cosmic Break   Thu Aug 18, 2011 4:35 pm

Running a game in a higher than normal priority may improve the framerate and responsiveness of your game. This is especially the case if your PC is somewhat antiquated. Users of newer versions of Windows can do this without having to bother altering their shortcut's target, but Windows XP and older can not. (Note that setting the priority too high will interfere with Windows' internal processes and is not recommended. This may cause system instability and lead to crashes. Above normal is generally as high as a game should need to be, unless you are staggering the priority of your running programs if you are using FRAPS or something similar.)

Cosmic Break's default shortcut opens the launcher that updates your game. Setting its priority does not affect the actual game, just the launcher. If you have the desire to alter the process priority of the actual game so that it runs in above normal or high priority, here is how.

-----

(Assuming that your installation is in the default configuration.. if it isn't then alter accordingly.)

Right click your Cosmic Break shortcut, (or create one if you don't have one,) copy it and paste it. You will now have a second shortcut that will be titled "Copy of Cosmic Break" or something similar.

Right click on the new shortcut and select "properties" in the context menu.

Select the "shortcut" tab.

You should see a line that says "Target" and a line that says "Start in."

For above normal priority, copy and paste this line into your "Target" box.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start "abovenormal" /abovenormal "C:\CyberStep\CosmicBreak_eng\programs\cosmic.exe" -launch

For high priority, copy and paste this line into your "Target" box.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start "high" /high "C:\CyberStep\CosmicBreak_eng\programs\cosmic.exe" -launch

The "Start in" box should have the default folder location already set. To make sure, it is:

C:\CyberStep\CosmicBreak_eng

-----

There you go, use your normal shortcut every Thursday morning or whenever there is an update to automatically download the new content. Once you are finished, close the window. Use the second shortcut to start your game with the desired process priority.

Or for Windows 7 users instead of that tiring way, you can just start up Cosmic Break and go to Task Manager, there you right click on Cosmic Break and select go to process. There it will show which process is for cosmic break. Right click on that and set priority and choose the above normal option.

Uh, task manager isn't new to Windows 7 you know. This guide's to make it start with higher system priority every time anyway, not how to manually change it every time you start the game up.

Thanks god ^_^

I've been manually changing it in my task manager every time I start! One less step ^_^
