PostSubject: How do you choose which robot to tune?   Thu Apr 30, 2015 12:01 pm

These are basically the reasons why i can't choose which robot to fully tune:

  • "Its a fun robot but it will be average or sightly below average if tuned it!"
  • "I may get a be a better [CLASS] robot eventually, better wait..."
  • "I like this [CLASS] robot but this other robot of the same class i have is vastly superior..."
  • "Can the weapon flaws of this robot (slow speed, bad range, ridiculously low ammo for a fast-shooting weapon) really be fixed with [TUNE]? Maybe the change after tuned will be negligible..."

Im curious, of the tens and tens of robots that exist, How do you choose which robot to tune?

Do you take one you like and fully tune it?
Do you take a robot with naturally high stats (20+) and fully tune it?
Do you take a robot with a strong characteristic (veil/special wonderbit/etc) and tune it?

Do I like it?
Is it able to do anything but feed?
Is it expensive or cheap to tune?

if I like the design / playstyle I'll tune it, even if it's bad or outdated in some ways.

Pretty much what I do too. This applies also if you really don't mind what your score is in arena.

the more people say something is bad, the more likely I am to build it.

What does feed mean? I see this term used constantly in-game.

To prove them wrong or because it makes the game more challenging and less monotone?

For me is an issue of Usefulness VS Fancy/cute playstyle.

The best example i can think of (i put it in spoiler because...its better):
Fancy VS useful.:

Stats performances + Power to wreck / powerfull / or ok + quality + hidden gems / hidden capability / possibility + fun to use + cheap tune / easy to tune + good HP + good capa + good weapons.

feed mean = i will wreck anything, so powerfull, tearing stuff / people apart and eat people with no mercy.
( " lel i mean easy to do frag ( "kill" ) and score, sry for scary joke i watching too much horror movie" ).

yeah don't you ever eris + berz + cristas + frag + biker moe rush rush rush push you to death  <<< moe sample that can wreck thing even no tune / half tuned already feels good and fully tuned 700 - 800 - 1k HP to kill every thing in sight.

well how good moe or mech is depend on how did you play and tune it btw.

Feeding is when you die often, usually on high-cost bots. You are feeding the other team points.

Feeding in CB terms is like "Stop rushing and dying recklessly you idiot. It's costing our BP".

Did I get that right?

Yeah, most rushers are also feeders.

However, not all rushers are feeders.. (Some rush and then run back to be healed, so they can rush again.)

..and not all feeders are rushers. (Some people suck and die even when they're trying to perform hit and run tactics.)

If English isn't your first language, I can understand how you might be confused by the terminology.

-----

OT:

I usually decide what bot tune based on what I find fun to play.. It has to have Broad Radar, (I only tune Broad Radar bots, aside from my required 505 cost clan fight bot,) and then I factor in how unique the build I make is to the meta, (eight of the same build in one room = I usually don't build that,) how relevant it is to the meta (you want your effort to pay off in utility,) and how fun it will be to paint. (If you can't paint it.. EX: the anime moes, IDGAF about it and will immediately junk it.)

I like airs, I like artillery units, I like alphastrikers.. basically anything with guns; either large guns or several guns.

this is still a poor comparison, bots can still be fancy depending on how you skin/which parts you use. there's far more to kagura mai than just nice effects
a full sub attack while long to charge, can do a whooping 100+ on an air
not to mention the debuffs which can cripple the enemy
she also has melt trap which could refrain any land bot from attacking or just curbstomp any other bot you're fighting
and her talismans, much faster (but sure, still a letdown compared to other art weapons)
can do high damage if all of them hit
lisel has some other perks and stuff but I don't like her so I won't comment

to find out for myself.

I don't trust people. People have told me something is bad, and I've found it's really good, and they were just doing something wrong. If a large number of people say a unit is good, I can probably see it be used in arena and confirm that. If a large number of people say something is bad, it's probably not used, so the information is there. So in order to get that information and figure out if people are just doing things wrong or if the unit is actually bad, I need to get it and use it myself.

That's kinda why I want to tune a Munya.

I never see them in arena and the only things I've heard about her were negative.

Her WB looks fun to me.. and she shoots like a long range air Resha.. and she has a charge cannon.

Every few months, I do a garage analysis. I will clean up and organize my main garage, move certain things over to sub if I don't use them anymore while moving things from sub if I feel like thinking about them. Then I take a picture of the whole thing like this one which I did in February. And then I go over each robot on that image and write down a few things: What is the current state of it, is it already completed? If not, do I have any plans on what to do with that bot? Do I have the resources to complete it yet? Did I leave it in the main because it's my garage's mascot or because it gives a unique atmosphere, rather than actual build plans?

Once I've basically analyzed what I've got in the main garage, I look over the things I've classified as In Progress, Planned, or Unplanned, and then think a bit about what I kind of build I feel like playing. For example, that Pepen Green, I did all that research back a few months back on Boost Run with high FLY values because I was thinking of how to build her. But I'm not comfortable with my weapon selection for her and her ammo situation right now, still wanted to work on high mobility builds, so I cooked a different bot up that embraced a different idealogy but inspired from that level of thinking. It ended up a different bot than I originally planned but the general gist of my plans was there.

As for what determines the kind of build I want to play... really that's whim ultimately. Fluene, my first completed build from back in 2012, came about because I was tired of not actually having completed any bot and I woke up one morning with a possible-to-tune build. I made the Albatreos build I use because of disappointment at my MB Aquila on Berzelius, and experimentation with him turned up an actually functional UW performance. That yellow bot below Cannonballer, that was built because I rolled Steel Burn, tried his melee AM, and realized "I really want to make this thing work, right now." At the moment, high mobility is still what I'm thinking about. I tuned Manimo last night to high enough FLY, but that's mostly trial stuff. For full builds, I'm probably going to work on Lily Rain BF next - I just need to actually decide what I want for her weapon tunes.

I pick bots based on how well the play style fits how I like to play mixed with how much I like the bot design, and a heavy preference given to bots no one plays.

Then you can claim to be the best XXX on the server! XD

I tune almost everything new I get. Most of the time it ends up being putting pre-tuned parts on them then do some easy tunes though (example). There are some exceptions in that I heavily tune, usually bots I like.

Also I dont tune boring bots (judged by myself):v

Yes - Tune it
No - Don't tune it
