I'd love to have a quote from verafice to start this off but I don't have my old IRC logs so fuck that.

Understanding overranging:
Every weapon has 2 range stats.
One is the lockon range. This is the one listed in range stat. This is how far the weapon will lock on from.
The other is travel range. This is the range at which the projectile is removed from the game. The projectile can hit things as long as it is in the game. For many weapons(but not all!) this range is further than the lockon range!

What does this mean?

When you alpha-strike, all your weapons will fire at the target you have a lock on, EVEN IF IT IS OUTSIDE THEIR LOCKON RANGE.
This means that they will track as if you had a lock-on with that weapon.
So, by using your longest ranged weapon to get a lock, you can fire your other weapons at a much longer range than you usually would, and you can then take advantage of the actual range, rather than being restricted to the lockon range.
Effective use of overrange builds let you be effective from nearly 400 range which is highly useful against the strong artillery that exist today. This is something that those so-called "wingsluts" can't do.

Who is Verafice?
Verafice was a WIZ player who played back during official release. He was on the trendy wave of "alpha air" players, but he innovated the usage of magnet guns to overrange the popular air raider BD+cross shooter+tentrion/raystag HD builds that people usually used back then. He did a lot of initial research on this technique. He no longer plays but this guide/database is named after him because I'm a historyfag.

BUILDING:
you want all your weapons to have actual range equal to or greater than the weapon you use to overrange with, otherwise parts of your build will not reach the target.
Having a targeting weapon with 330 range when you are using arms and a head that both max out at 300 range, you're going to be throwing out a lot of bullets that will vanish before getting near the target.

Here's some good weapons to use to lead an overrange build:
300 range(pretty much the minimum range for these builds, this is the actual range of adone AM):
flint musket - found in RT SHOP

320 range:
musket - uc shop

330 range(good standard range):
magnet gun - RT SHOP
Katalina AM2 - magnet gun, frees up a hand to use a cross shooter, gara only

370 range(highest practical range)
folded rifle amj - old weapon, garapon only, very rare. Won't really hit on their own due to projectile, ideal to run a single amj to get lockon. kind of low ammo
psycho formula AMJ - AIR USABLE BLAST PSYGUN, found attached to PSYCHO FORMULA ROAR in garapon, has insane actual range. Great to run 2 of these. Also they have like infinite ammo.
psycho formula HD2 - now in RT SHOP. gives you 2 arms and 2 cross shooters(no other good handheld weapons IMO) but takes away the ability to use a strong HD.

HOW TO HELP:
if you have a weapon that is not on the list(because I don't have it/haven't tried it yet) here is how you check the actual range:
1. make a bot with the weapon in question and a weapon with the range you THINK is the actual range.
2. go into training arena
3. target a tree with the longer range weapon and fire

if the weapon in question hits, it has range equal to or greater than that of the range of the weapon you just used to overrange it.
come back and post the data you gained here and I will add it to the list.

Remember when I was fooling around throwing parts at a Paci a couple of days ago? I first used a meteora AM2, it makes a gigantic global cooldown.

oh right cyc gun, I always forget how godlike that is because I don't have one.

I'm going to ignore most 300 range weapons since there isn't much point in using them. I have frau arms listed because people seem to default to those.

I was wondering about the Pochette.. I'm planning another MB air and I kept looking at it.. but, I ended up building a Sledgeheim, first.

Ooh, Cyclone guns have such range.. I have two, but their cost is so high that I never considered using them.

What about Cupid Shooter? Don't have that one at the moment, but it's similar to Cross Shooter, if I recall correctly.

honestly with the amount of shit you can put on you won't get DREAM BUILDS without multiple gcapas.

figure out what weapons you want and then go for stats.

i don't have cross shooters, and flint musket is just not a weapon that will hit at range. So when it comes down to it, I look at the options and say fuck it. Let's not do handhelds. The options are so bad it's better to just get more stats.

Probably going to be ass, but oh, well. I did okay in like one match with a level 4 air raider but there were many bad rushing lands.

yeah you'll pull 10 free capa with a flowergun and be able to use prop bits and can switch trump hat to a tec/hp ac.

Are travel ranges and lock-on ranges affected the same way from range tunes and the long range effect? e.g. If I tune a Frau AM with the vanilla range tune, do my shots start disappearing at 315 range? Do they vanish earlier if I use -range tunes?

The short answer is yes, both ranges are affected.

the long answer is I'm not sure if the +/- range is shared or applied individually, so it could be that a weapon with 300 lockon range and 400 actual range becomes 270 lockon range and 360 actual range, or it becomes 270 lockon range and 370 actual range.

These are long range weapons that would be used to LEAD an alpha-strike. Learning their despawn range isn't useful because you aren't using another weapon to overrange them, but using them to overrange other weapons.

Fairly certain this doesn't overrange at all, due to the nature of it.

again, I'm asking what weapons to test the despawn range of. I know there's a bunch of things that should be added as good weapons to use for overranging, but I just want a list of things to test when I get down to that.
